🔄 Updating Firmware
Follow these detailed steps to update the firmware of your Tadpole web camera:
Step 1: Connect Your Camera
Ensure your Tadpole web camera is connected to your computer directly via USB. Wait for your operating system to recognize the device before proceeding.
Step 2: Open a Supported Browser
Launch one of the supported Chromium-based browsers on your device.
Step 3: Navigate to the Firmware Updater Tool
Go to Opal Camera Doctor to access the firmware updater. This page is specifically designed to assist in detecting your camera and guiding you through the firmware update process.
Step 4: Start the Firmware Update
Follow the on-screen instructions carefully. The tool will first check for connectivity and compatibility of your Tadpole camera. Once detected, the updater will check for the latest firmware version and prompt you to begin the update.
Step 5: Download & Install the Firmware
If an update is available, proceed with the download & installation by clicking on the update button. The process may take several minutes, during which your camera should remain connected. Do not disconnect your camera until the update confirmation is displayed and it tells you that you’re running the latest firmware.
Step 6: Restart the Camera
After the update is complete, disconnect and reconnect the camera to finalize the installation.
Step 7: Test the Camera
Ensure that the camera is functioning correctly by testing it in your browser or camera application. Check for improved performance and resolution.
❓ Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during the update, such as the camera not being recognized or the update failing to install, try the following:
- Check USB Connection: Ensure the USB connection is secure and the camera is powered on.
- Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, restarting your computer can resolve connectivity issues.
- Reset the Browser's USB Permissions: Check your browser USB for your Tadpole. This may be titled “Reset Permissions" when on the site permissions for the Opal Doctor page.
- Try a Different Browser: If issues persist, attempt the update process using another supported browser.
- Adjust USB Rules for Linux: If you're experiencing issues on Linux, you may need to modify USB rules to allow your browser access to your Tadpole. Run the following commands, reconnect your device, and attempt the upgrade through Opal Doctor again:
echo 'SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="3673", MODE="0666"' | sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/3673-opal.rules
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger
